Before Tuesday, I did not know what to expect about the poster exhibition. But after completing my poster and presenting it on Tuesday, I think it was a good experience. I was able to share my internship work with my classmates, Dr. Wible, internship supervisors, and others who came to see our work.
Each English 491-A student put a lot of work in effort into their internship work and this could be seen in their posters.
My internship at the RMHC was a very good experience. I learned a lot about the inner workings of non-profit organizations and I was able to contribute to the House. I hope that my supervisor benefited from the work I completed for the House because I put a lot of effort in making the best working document for the RMHC.
Also, I taught myself how to use In Design, Photoshop, Mac Pages, and Microsoft Publisher. All of these document editing programs will be useful in the future, especially if I work as an editor for a company.
Now, its time to complete the web portfolio. I have all of the internship documents completed. All I need to do is write my reflection and finish creating my website using Dreamweaver and upload all my documents to the server.

4/17/09
Friday- I met with my supervisor to discuss my progress so far with the handbook. So far, I have completed the rough draft of the document. I still need to edit the original handbook by using track changes on microsoft word. Then I am going to convert the original document into a PDF file and upload it to my web portfolio.
The next step for the re-designed handbook is to add images to eliminate white space. After completing the rough draft of the handbook, I still need to complete to fliers for the handbook. I want to have everything completed by next weekend before the poster presentation. So, this upcoming week is going to be dedicated to tying up all lose ends before April 28th.
Next week, my supervisor is going to provide me with pictures of a family dinner at the House and also pictures of the outside of the building.

Internship material workshop/Progress as of 4/10/2009
I workshopped the Pop Tab Collection with the class on Tuesday and the class gave me some great suggestions on how to improve the document. I really appreciate the constructive criticism. Many of my classmates suggested changing the section of the flier explaining about how to donate the pop tabs and the purpose of collecting the tabs.
I plan on reconstructing the paragraph so that it explains the purpose of the pop tab collection. Then, after the paragraph I'm going to make a bullet list that explains how to donate the tabs.
Right now, I'm about halfway done with the Volunteer Handbook. I still have some comprehensive editing to do on the original document. I'm still trying to figure out where the images would best fit in the handbook.
On Friday, I took a lot of pictures of the different facilities in the House that are included in the handbook. I want to add pictures because I feel that there is a lot of text and white space.

Rough drafts of internship work at RMHC
On Friday, I met with my supervisor again to actually show her my progress on my internship documents since the mid-semester. I have completed working documents of the "Pop-tab collection flier" the "family dinner flier" "comfy quilts flier" and the Volunteer handbook. I still have one more flier design to complete, which is the "ink jet flier.
The only component of the volunteer handbook that I actually completed was the main/title page. My supervisor loved the color and visual designs that I used to create the page. I have ideas to add pictures to the document, but this involves actually getting all the staff members together (which is actually a difficult task because everyone is always busy) and waiting until the kitchen space is complete. Adding pictures to the document will eliminate some unnecessary white space and add spice to the hand book.
On Tuesday, I will be workshopping my internship materials in class. I am working diligently to add more elements to the volunteer handbook. I want to cut down the number of pages without taking away from the handbook as a whole. InDesign is still pretty difficult to master but I am getting use to it. I know I will get a lot of useful feedback from my peers on improving my designs for my internship.
