The work environment of the Ronald McDonald house is very laid back. My supervisor is very nice and personable. She is flexible with my schedule and is easy to talk to. My supervisor is a graduate student and also was a undergrad Professional writing and editing student. Everyone at RMHC dresses comfortably. The dress code is jeans and t-shirts. Many of the volunteers are work study students.
Everyone seems to get along well. But, sometimes I feel like I'm in the way because everyone is always busy with other projects and guest who check into the House. I really don't have my own work space and I have to bring my own laptop because the computers at the House doesn't have the software I need to do the work.
On Friday, I went to the House for a few hours. I just recently bought a Mac and I believe that Indesign is much easier to use on the Mac OS. I showed my supervisor the projects that I had been working on and she liked the page designs and offered some constructive criticism on how to improve the designs.
I have completed 2 flyer designs and still working on making edits to the volunteer handbook. For the handbook I am brainstorming designs that will improve the previous design.

Internship reflection
On Friday, I went to the Ronald McDonald House for an hour and a half. I showed my supervisor a rough draft of a flyer I was working on for a Pop Tab collection for RMHC. She gave me some useful feedback on what to add, but overall she really like my design for the flyer. She wants to use the flyer to hang around town, but she would have to get permission from her boss.
I feel that my Editing class this semester has really helped me in my internship. I have already edited about half of the Volunteer Handbook for the RMHC. Before this class, I did not know the proper marks to make for editing a text. Now, I am getting a chance to improve my editing skills.

Ronald McDonald House
I will be interning this semester at the Ronald McDonald House. RMHC is a non-profit organization that is a "home away from home" for families of critically ill children that are receiving treatment from local area hospitals.
The projects that I will be working on this semester for the House are: re-designing their Volunteer and Guest Handbook, flyers, and applications. This internship is a good fit for me because I feel that I can use my skills that I have learned in PWE classes to re-design material for the RMHC. I will also be exposed to how a non-profit organization works and the benefits of volunteering at RMHC.
